MACH4 Barley Mar AXP AJP OF ADHF EAC WV-N TG-N CL2-R TFE FDX CGC
January 19, 2004 - June 11, 2017
"Dogs come into our lives, leave paw prints on our hearts, and we are forever changed." Sammy and Barley were our first Goldens and littermates. We bought them out of the newspaper and we got a deal for buying two puppies… Our lives were certainly forever changed. We lost Sammy at 5 ˝ to cancer, but Barley graced our lives for almost 13 ˝ years. During that time, we did many things, tried many sports, and went many places. He competed in agility, flyball and dock diving. Barley was the first dog I earned a MACH title on. He also enjoyed field training, but as he was not a strong swimmer we never entered any events. He also loved hiking, vacations and running on the beach. Oh and barking, he also really liked barking. Any time was a good time to bark or chomp your teeth. Especially on the start line, table or waiting for dinner. Barley made lots of friends along the way, if anyone has some memories to share, I would love to hear them. I am doing my best not to think about his death, but think about his life and the wonderful memories.
Barley was a Golden Retriever who was born in San Diego, CA but lived in many locations throughout California. He had a ton of personality and attitude. He was very vocal and likes to talk, and sometimes talk back. He thrived on being the center of attention and was more that happy to show you all of his toys if you come to visit.
Barley was very friendly and outgoing, he loved all people. His happy go lucky attitude was pretty contagious.
When it came to training this boy is was business. He loved every sport I tried with him including agility, flyball, dockdogs and field work. While he could be a goof walking to and from the line, once he started working he was in the zone. Even once at an agility trial having a dog run in the ring while he was on the startline did not phase him.
In Sept 2009 Barley completed the requirements for the GRCA Agility Dog Hall of Fame (ADHF)! Barley earned his MACH in April of 2010, his MACH2 in December 2010 and his MACH3 in May 2011. We trial about two times a month in the San Diego and Los Angeles areas. Barley's other agility accomplishments include two Open level High in Trials (HIT) and three Excellent level HITs. In April 2009 Barley went Excellent HIT at the Golden Retriever Club of America Western Regional in a field of about 30 other Goldens! He also qualified for the 2010, 2011 and 2012 AKC Agility National Championship.
